Before you start
Keep these handy: your business details including your business number, a phone that can receive texts, and your bank account details.
Verify your email, phone and personal details
- Open your Stripe setup link from FoodSwipe, enter your email and click Continue. If you already have a Stripe account with that email, sign in with your password instead.
- Enter your phone number and submit. Stripe texts a six-digit code; enter it to verify.
- Enter your legal name exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID, then your email and job title, date of birth, home address and phone number.
Business details, payouts and support phone
- Under industry, search restaurant and choose Restaurants and nightlife. Add your website and a short description of what you sell and how customers pay.
- Add the bank account for payouts: choose Canadian dollars, then enter your transit, institution and account numbers. The cheque image on the page shows where to find each one.
- Add a customer support phone number so customers can reach you about a charge.
If your restaurant is incorporated
On the Review and submit page:
- Click Edit next to business type and change it to Company with the structure Corporation.
- Business information now shows incomplete. Click Edit, enter your legal business name exactly as registered, and add your registration number. You can use your business number, which is the first nine digits of your GST number. If you're not sure, check your GST registration or search your business name on your provincial registry.
- Under Management and ownership, add everyone who owns 25% or more of the business, then add your company directors the same way.
- Check the business address. It may be pre-filled with your home address, so edit it to match your registered business address exactly.
Submit
Check your payout details and click Agree and submit. If Stripe asks you to verify your identity, follow the steps. When you see Information submitted, you can close the window. Once Stripe approves your account, you can accept online payments on FoodSwipe.
Key takeaways
- Have your business number, a phone for texts and bank details ready.
- Use your legal name exactly as on your ID.
- Payouts go to a Canadian-dollar bank account.
- Incorporated restaurants must switch to Company / Corporation and add owners (25%+) and directors.
